How can I turn my closet into a laundry room?

June 13th, 2009
fruits asked:

I am buying a home that is absolutely perfect- but it doesn’t have a laundry room. There is a closet that backs a bathroom, so all the plumbing is right there- if I buy a small stackable washer/dryer can I turn my closet into a laundry room- what needs to be done? What requirements are there to make it a laundry room- I know there is something with venting… Thanks!

Do it yourself Closet Organizers - From Idea to Install

June 10th, 2009
Jill Borash asked:

ney and the opportunity to create your own space are the biggest benefits of do-it-yourself closet organizers over the professional systems. With so many different choices of organizers, what is the best way to be sure you get one that works for you? As with any major investment: shop around. Searching online as well as at your local stores is a good idea. Looking at the showrooms of professional closet system companies is good as well so that you can get ideas about how to organize your closet.

While you are shopping around, you will want to be thinking about whether or not you want a kit or a custom solution. But aren’t all do it yourself closet organizers kits? Not all. There are different options available to customize do it yourself closet organizers. There are standard kits that you can buy or you can build your own customized solution. If you want a more customized organizer, you will, of course, have to pay more for it because every piece is individually priced. You can also buy a standard do it yourself closet organizer kit and then add on pieces as needed to customize it for your needs.

As you shop around, also keep in mind how you want to use your closet space. Do you need more hanging space or more drawers? Be sure that whatever do it yourself closet organizer system you buy fits not only your physical space but your vision for your space as well.

Investigate the company that you are planning to buy your do it yourself closet organizer from before you make your purchase. No matter whether it is online or at your local store, you need to make sure that the company you buy from is legitimate. Make sure that you know how long the company has been in business and know whether or not anyone has registered a complaint with them with the Better Business Bureau. If it is an online store, be sure to call the phone number listed so that you are comfortable with the professionalism of whoever answers the phone.

When you buy your do it yourself closet organizer online or from a local store, make sure that you are clear on the return policy. If it isn’t the right color or specifications for your closet, you want to make sure that it is easy to return.

It goes without saying that in order to install your own closet organizer, you will need to be one of those people who are handy around the house. If you are not, enlist the help of someone who is. These do it yourself closet organizers can be a challenge to install and the last thing you want is a half-finished closet that you cannot figure out how to complete. Make sure that you have set aside enough time to get your system installed in your closet. You are better off overestimating the amount of time it will take you to install it than underestimating. Because the closet is one of those things you use daily, it can be very frustrating to try to live with a half-finished closet for several days.

How can i remove smoke odor from my closet?

June 9th, 2009
Raylyn asked:

I live in an apartment, and my downstairs neighbors smoke (not just cigarettes, unfortunately). I do not. Now, my closet stinks of cigarette smoke, as do all of my clothes. Is there anything I can do to remove the odor from my closet, and a way to de-stink my clothes without having to launder them all? I’ve tried odor absorbing candles and Febreeze to no effect. Please help!

If a running refrigerator is left open inside a close closet, why does the closet warm up?

May 27th, 2009
Sora [ 空 ] asked:

Let’s say you put a running refrigerator inside a closet, close the closet, open the refrigerator door, why does the closet warm up?

I know it has to do with thermodynamics, and how fast the refrigerator can cool the air versus how hot is the surrounding air. No equations necessary, just why you think it’s happening. Thanks!

The Benefits Of Closet Kitchen Organizers

May 21st, 2009
Mark Clifton asked:

Many people open their kitchen closets to find a large disorganized mess. Kitchen closets are often the most neglected closet areas in the home. There are many different things that are placed in a kitchen closet. This may include dishes, cookware, food, and more. For people who want to organize this space in the home, there are not closet kitchen organizers that can help. These organizers for the kitchen closet can be found in many basic improvement stores for the home, as well as many online stores. In this article, you will be introduced to standard methods on getting that kitchen closet organized and how closet kitchen organizers can help.

The first thing that you should do when organizing the closet in the kitchen of your home is to pull everything out and get rid of those items that are not necessary. If you have a lot of different things in the kitchen closet that you do not need or use, you will find that the overall storage capacity of the kitchen becomes quite limited. This can truly put a damper on the entire home. Disorganization is like a disease. It often starts in one area and then branches off into many different other areas in the home. It is important to put a stop to the clutter before it spreads.

The second thing you should do when organizing a kitchen closet is to decide what items you want to be stored in this space, and stick to that plan. If you want cookware and dishes to be placed in the closet of the kitchen, then that should be the only items placed there. If you want appliances for the kitchen to be stored in this space, then only store appliances. If you want to store food in this closet, then only food should be stored. This will help you to establish a base inventory of where things should be in your kitchen. Furthermore, it will help you to remember that only the items that you specify should be stored in this location.

Next, you should measure the amount of space that you have available in the kitchen closet. When you purchase a closet kitchen organizer, you will have to know the total dimensions of the space in order to select a storage unit that will fit. You should also determine what features you will be requiring prior to making a purchase. Some of these features include various types of shelves, sliding drawer units for items such as utensils used in the kitchen, and come even come complete with hanging rods to hang aprons, and similar items on. The more you know about what you need out of a closet kitchen organizer, the easier it will be to select the most appropriate one.

Once you are ready to shop for the closet kitchen organizer, you should carefully review your budget to find out how much you have for this endeavor. There are many inexpensive closet kitchen organizers available for those seeking them, and there are also higher priced units. You should always purchase a closet kitchen organizer that is priced within your means.
